STL to MIZZOU
There is no better way to make your claim as the dominant program in the Midwest than to OWN your state and its not more critical to any program than the University of Missouri. The recruiting class of 2019 in the city of St.Louis may be the most talented group of student athletes in the entire nation. The MIZZOU football and basketball programs are in a transition and are looking to become a contender in the SEC and the answer to their problems may be a mere one hundred and twenty four miles away in St.Louis.
The MIZZOU Football program has suffered since the departure of Coach Pinkel. Last year, Coach Odom failed to bring in the top recruits like Kamryn Babb and Cameron Brown who both chose Ohio State. They also missed two big defensive lineman in Ronnie Perkins and Michael Thomas who both attended University of Oklahoma. This year they have already changed their fortune around by getting arguable the best offensive lineman in the state in Jack Buford, Lutheran North, and a pair of Kirkwood Pioneers in Maurice Massey and Arvell Ferguson. To make this a complete success they need to reel in Marcus Washington, 4 star All American wide receiver, who can be a red zone monster for the Tigers offense and Jalani Williams, a freakish athlete at Safety, who can be an enforcer for the defense. The 2019 momentum can also help with recruiting a very talented 2021 and 2022 football class in the city of St. Louis.
The Mizzou Basketball program has also taken a huge step in the right direction with the hire of Cuonzo Martin. In his first year as head coach he went 20-13 and made an appearance in the NCAA tournament even without his star player Michael Porter Jr.
This year Coach Martin has Torrence Watson on his team, a Whitfield High graduate from St. Louis. Torrence was recruited by Illinois and Ohio State but ultimately ended up choosing Mizzou.
This year Coach Martin has recently picked up a verbal commit from Mario McKinney. Mario is a combo guard from Vashon High School. That is a huge pick up for reasons other than McKinney’s skills it could mean a union between McKinney’s good friend EJ Liddel who is Mr. Basketball of the state of Illinois. That acquisition would mean a clean sweep of the top recruits in the area. A big deal for the momentum of this young basketball program. A program who would like to continue their success in keeping in state recruits because class of 2020 may have even more talent with Cameron Fletcher, Caleb Love, and Luke Kasubke.
There is a lot of talent brewing in Missouri especially in the hot bed region of Saint Louis and schools such as Mizzou would be remiss if they did not take advantage of the talent in their own backyard.
